Giant Buddha Temple is located on upper Zhongzheng Park which can be taken into your eye of the whole scene of Keelung at a glance. The architecture of Giant Buddha Temple adopted Tang Dynasty construction which was different from other temples. In former days, Giant Buddha Temple was just a small Buddhist lecture room which was located in a narrow lane of Ren'ai District. Finally, the temple was rebuilt at the mountaintop of Zhongzheng Park in 1967. Then, the temple was inaugurated formally. The White Guan Yin Statue situated in the front of the Temple is 22.5 meters tall, which is the landmark of the Keelung City. From the top floor of the statue, you may view the entire Keelung Harbor. So far, there are figures of Mercy Buddha on Keelung buses that make Keelung citizens deep impression. The meaning of the figure of Mercy Buddha, “Cih Guang Pu Zhao”, means that Mercy Buddha blesses the whole Keelung; make people feel gracious and bright.
※The visit time of Guan Yin Statue is from 9am to 5pm.
