Previously, it was the residence of Matsuura Shinpei, the shop manager of Taiwan Real Estate Co. Ltd. – Keelung Branch.
Built in 1932, during the Japanese rule, its retaining wall and foundation were built with local reef. During high tide, the sea water will reach the house’s foundation.
The main structure was built with wood and a small quantity of reinforced concrete, being a house with a hybrid style – Western and Japanese style. Later, it has been maintained by Keelung City Government, and is open to the public.
