The Dragon Boat Festival in Keelung City was organized by the private organization Keelung Youth Chamber of Commerce in 1982 to handle the first event. At that time, there were not many teams and it was a spontaneous private celebration event, and the location was Keelung Port. From 1994 to 2006, due to the people’s enjoyment of dragon boat races and traditional folk customs, they were hosted by the Keelung Sports Association, until 2007 the event start hosted by the Keelung government. Up to now, the Keelung Dragon Boat Festival has been in existence for more than 26 years, and it has become the grand event of the annual Dragon Boat Festival in Keelung.
The content of the event has evolved from the early dragon boat races to a carnival of folklore and sports. At the festival includes fun faires, family sketches, singing and dancing performances, and traditional event. The activities always attract nearly ten-thousand team staff and the citizen.
